‘BSNL’s move to discontinue printed bills will lead to chaos’

Margao: GOACAN has demanded that the move by BSNL Goa to discontinue providing printed bills by post from January 1, 2019 be immediately put on hold.

In a press note, GOACAN coordinator Roland Martins said that over one lakh landline consumers will be affected and that “chaos will be witnessed” at the Customer Service Centres (CSCs) “as the decision has been taken in haste without properly informing the consumers.”

“Only after putting in place the alternative mechanism and proper discussion with the district collectors, General Administration Department (GAD), Goa government and Telecom Advisory Committee (TAC), such a decision may be considered from April 1, 2019, failing which there will be mass surrendering of landline connections after fights with lower level clerks at the cash counters,” the note states. GOACAN said that Goa government departments will also be the first to be affected “as BSNL has yet to collect the email addresses of hundreds of government offices to implement this order.”
