The year 2019 is likely to see a major revolution in the smartphone industry. Nothing but 5G is what will be setting trends in the smartphone markets next year. Leading smartphone makers, including Nokia, Oppo and Lenovo are among the major brands that have reportedly already started working on their 5G phones.
Latest to join the bandwagon is OnePlus. Much before the release of OnePlus 6T, the brand had revealed one of the headlining features of its 2019 flagship. During the Qualcomm 4G/5G Summit 2018, the Chinese mobile brand confirmed that it will launch a 5G smartphone next year. While it is obvious that 5G connectivity will be the new sensation of 2019, OnePlus certainly looks forward to be one of the first handset manufacturers to introduce the feature in its phones. Also, chipmaker Qualcomm revealed that it is expecting the release of at least two major flagships with 5G connectivity.
Sometime in August there was news wherein Lenovo went on to say that it is going to be the first company to launch a smartphone with 5G support. In fact, Lenovo’s Vice President Chang Cheng confirmed the coming of a smartphone with 5G support. Chang on the Chinese microblogging site, Weibo, posted about it. He said that Lenovo is working on a 5G smartphone (could be smartphone(s)) too to launch by the end of this year, and if not that maximum by the beginning of 2019.
On the other hand, Samsung Galaxy S10’s 5G credentials reported the details about how Qualcomm and the South Korean maker announced a ‘strategic relationship’ agreement, which specifically mentions the “transition to 5G”. A 5G connection on the S10 would allow users superfast download and upload speeds, while also give the benefits to play AAA games via streaming services like PS Now, as well as stream high-fidelity 4K movies.
In addition to these, other flagships such as HTC, Inseego/ Novatel Wireless, LG, Motorola, NetComm Wireless, Netgear, Asus, Fujitsu, HMD Global, Oppo, Sharp, Sierra Wireless, Sony Mobile, Telit, Vivo, WNC, and Xiaomi were announced to be “committed to 5G in 2019”, with the Snapdragon X50 5G NR modem to be used. Qualcomm added that 18-19 devices will be 5G ready in 2019.
