NOIDA: Nearly 500 farmers, belonging to various outfits such as Sanyukta Kisan Morcha, Akhil Bharatiya Gurjar Parishad and Kisan Sabha, staged a protest outside Samsung’s manufacturing plant in Phase 2 and demanded that the company fulfil the “promise” of giving jobs to 1, 000 youths from local villages of Gautam Budh Nagar.
The protesters demanded that 50% of the jobs be reserved for the family members of the farmers who had lost their land in acquisition for different projects in the district.
The district administration has imposed Section 144 in the district for a month, but that could stop the farmers from protesting against the company.
Ravinder Bhatti, state president of Akhil Bhartiya Gurjar Parishad, said, “For the past four months, we are protesting and demanding jobs for local youth in the factories set up in Noida and Greater Noida. We will continue protesting till our demand is met.”
Shailender Mishra, city magistrate said, “The farmers demanded to meet CEO of all authorities in the district. So, we are talking to the authorities to hold a meeting between their CEOs, farmers and the district administration.” When TOI contacted Samsung officials, they refused to comment.
